RESP 2131 - Current Concepts V


2.0 Credits

This course introduces the student to the concepts of health care research and preparation of continuing education programs for health care professionals. Opportunities for practical experience in teamwork dynamics, team facilitation, and group presentations are provided.

Note: This course must be completed with a grade of C or higher.  Additional fees may be added for ACLS certification.

Prerequisites: (3) RESP 2121 ; RESP 2122 ; and RESP 2994

Course Objectives
1. Demonstrate how to perform effective high-quality CPR, defibrillation, synchronized cardioversion, and the common drugs and drug routes used during ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support).
2. Describe how to monitor patients before cardiac arrest, during CPR, and after cardiac arrest.
3. Effectively analyze current medical literature articles related to the field of respiratory care and compose a written abstract and present their findings to their peers.
4. Discuss the roles of traveling Respiratory Therapists and the requirements to become a traveling RT.
5. Identify how to be successful as a new Respiratory Therapist by participating in panel discussions with the current Respiratory Therapist, Managers, and the program Medical Director.
6. Discuss the role of the Respiratory Therapist in Palliative care and Hospice.
7. Discuss licensure requirements for Respiratory Therapist, particularly in the state of Nebraska.
