RESP 2122 - Pediatric and Neonatal Respiratory Care

This course is designed to introduce the student to the procedures, principles, techniques, and theories as they apply to the pediatric and neonatal patient and to prepare them for their upcoming clinical rotation with this patient population.

Note: This course must be completed with a grade of C or higher.

Course Objectives

Describe fetal cardiopulmonary development.

Identify the various congenital cardiac defects.

Describe the various techniques utilized in assessing the newborn and pediatric patient. Describe the various techniques utilized in the management of the airway of the newborn and pediatric patient.

Demonstrate an understanding of mechanical ventilators and ventilator function as applied specifically to the neonate and pediatric patient.

Describe both invasive and noninvasive monitoring techniques for the neonate and pediatric patient.

Describe cardiopulmonary disorders/ diseases of the neonate and pediatric patient and there treatment.
