HLTH 1602 - H&W Coaching Skills Assessment 2.0 Credits
Students refine evidence-based strategies, theories, and techniques board-eligible professionals are required to be proficient in. Building on the NBHWC-aligned standards, students engage in structured practice for a practical skills assessment, demonstrate ethical and core coaching competencies, continue cultivating personal wellbeing, and explore legal aspects of delivering client-centered care. Students develop a coach toolkit with resources to support coaching proficiency in their careers, strengthen their coaching presence, and prepare for the NBHWC exam with confidence. Overall, this course emphasizes practical skills refinement, professional development, personal wellbeing, and exam preparation.

Course Objectives

Demonstrate adherence to the NBHWC code of ethics and scope of practice.

Demonstrate a plan for and evidence of a personal commitment to health and wellness.

Create a two-year plan for NBHWC continuing education and identify at least 2 coaching niches based on student strengths, values, and interests.

Devise a coaching agreement that meets legal parameters and addresses relevant issues that may arise in the delivery of coaching sessions.

Demonstrate practical skills and coaching proficiency development by completing a Practical Skills Assessment (PSA).

Develop a plan to respond to PSA feedback from qualified instructors.

Investigate evidence-based models of community healing and collective wellbeing, and reflect on how coaching can support social connection, equity, and sustainable health practices.

Demonstrate competence on practice exams in preparation for the NBHWC exam.

Create a coaching toolkit and compile coaching resources to support professional practice post program completion.
