HLTH 1601 - Advanced Health and Wellness Coaching 4.5 Credits
Students learn health and wellness coaching skills and techniques and demonstrate how to intake, interact with, devise plans for clients, and terminate coaching relationships. Students learn to refine and master skills to support and guide individuals for creating and sustaining health changes through skill development and practice among their peers.

Course Objectives

Demonstrate the role of a health coach in promoting behavior change and overall well-being.

Critique facilitation tool(s) and strategies to match client needs.

Facilitate meaningful coaching conversations with active listening, empathy, and open-ended questioning.

Compare and contrast the behavior change theories and their components.

Conduct comprehensive wellness assessments to identify client strengths, challenges, and priorities.

Implement motivational interviewing strategies to guide clients toward setting and reaching their goals.

Create wellness plans to include evidence-based strategies for nutrition, physical activity, stress management, and other health behaviors.

Use reflection and feedback techniques to empower clients to overcome obstacles.
