RESP 1992 - Clinical Practicum II

5.5 Credits

The student is assigned 16.5 hours per week to clinical practice in affiliated hospitals and healthcare agencies. Emphasis is placed on positive pressure therapy techniques, airway clearance therapy, arterial blood gas puncture, tracheostomy care and management, and interpretation of chest radiographs.

Note: This course must be completed with a C or better. Additional fees are attached to this course to cover clinical affiliate required costs.

Course Objectives
1. Recall & demonstrate proficiency with the PAC’s listed in the course outline for Clinical Practicum I - RESP 1991

2. Explain the theory, as well as demonstrate the ability to perform the following:

Positive pressure therapies. PAC #7
Airway clearance therapies. PAC #8
Arterial blood gas puncture. PAC #9
Tracheostomy tube care and management. PAC #10
Interpretation of chest radiographs. PAC #11

3. Demonstrate the methods for the safe handling of clean and contaminated patient care equipment and supplies.

4. Student exhibits courteous and pleasant demeanor, shows consideration, respect, honesty, and integrity in the clinical setting, while recognizing social and cultural diversity.

5. Demonstrates the ability to gather and organize in written, verbal, and electronic forms, information concerning a patient’s diagnosis, disease process, and treatment in an ethical and private manner.

6. Apply good clinical judgement to include organization, efficiency, safety, and confidence in the clinical setting.

7. Demonstrate the ability to appropriately apply HIPAA regulations.

8. Demonstrates the values of work habits, dependability, and reliability in a clinical setting.
