DESL 1300L - Class A BTW CDL Training


5 Credits
Students learn to identify basic Commercial Motor Vehicle instruments and controls and how to properly perform vehicle inspections, control the motion of CMV’s under various road and traffic conditions and shifting and backing techniques, and couple and uncouple combination vehicles. During the off-street driving exercises, students familiarize themselves with the basic operating characteristics of a CMV. Students must be able to perform the skills to a level of competency required to permit safe on-street driving.  When students successfully complete this course, students have completed one-half of the requirements to take the Skills Test for a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).

Prerequisites: (3) Commercial Learner’s Permit, DOT Physical, DOT Drug screen must be taken within thirty days prior to the first day of class. Non-native English speakers must demonstrate English proficiency. Students taking the ESL Accuplacer test must obtain a score of 70 or above in Reading and 86 or above in Listening - must be completed prior to taking this course.
Pre/Corequisite: (1) DESL 1295 must be taken prior to or at the same time as this course.
