SPAN 2981 - Spanish for Business Internship

This internship provides students with the opportunity to work in a business setting where Spanish is used. It prepares business students to use Spanish in the workplace and/or to expose students to a bilingual/international business setting. To develop an internship to meet their academic and career goals, students must meet with their faculty advisor. Based on state guidelines, students must complete 40 hours of work for each credit hour.

Course Objectives

Evaluate which elements define the culture of the organization or business and the areas that compose it.
Appraise the role that the organization or business plays in the local economy and/or society. Examine the origin of the organization or business in regard to Spanish-speaking clients, personnel and/or service.
Identify the impact significance that the organization or business has in regard to Spanish-speaking clients, personnel and/or service.
Recognize and summarize the effects that the Spanish language and related cultures has on the organization or business.
Devise strategies to successfully interact with native speakers that promote beneficial outcomes for the organization or business.
Indicate any areas where the organization could improve, modify, or tailor communication in Spanish.
Broaden Spanish vocabulary to reflect the linguistic needs of the organization or business.
Apply knowledge to real-world challenges in an internship environment.
Develop and enact a compelling professional vision that values diversity in the workplace.
Engage in responsible conduct while working as an intern.
