NURS 1110 - Adult Nursing I

6.0 Credits

Introduction to the knowledge, skills and abilities associated with nursing practice. Concepts of physiological integrity, psychosocial integrity, a safe effective care environment and health promotion/maintenance are examined. The nursing process provides a foundational/beginning framework to help the learner think critically, assess factors that influence safe and effective care delivery and integrates theory with the care of clients and families. Students learn nursing concepts related to the surgical client, musculoskeletal system, peripheral vascular system, eye and ear, nose, and throat disorders. This course includes didactic and clinical component.

Prerequisites: (5) Acceptance into the Practical Nursing program; CHEM 1010; ENGL 1010; MATH 1310; and PSYC 1120

Course Objectives
1. Maintain foundational standards of ethical, professional and legal behavior while utilizing critical thinking to identify knowledge related to nursing practice with individuals within the context of health and wellness promotion. [EOP SLO #1, 2]{Clinical: Obj I}
2. Identify the qualities of the nurse in the learner role with responsibility and accountability for foundational nursing practice and an awareness of the need for continued personal learning and self development. [EOP SLO #5]{Clinical: Obj II}
3. Examine foundational caring behaviors and the use of nursing process to implement therapeutic interventions in the delivery of nursing care to clients. [EOP SLO #1, #3]{Clinical: Obj III,}
4. Utilize foundational knowledge from nursing and related disciplines to make guided clinical judgments with individuals according to their lived experience and within the context of health for the purpose of wellness promotion. [EOP SLO #3, 5, 6]{Clinical: Obj IV}
