MUSC 1120 - Intermediate Music Fundamentals


4.5 Credits

MUSC 1120 builds on concepts learned in MUSC 1110 . Students apply terms and concepts in transposition, composition and performance. Students will participate in an intermediate level analysis of harmony, form, and techniques used in tonal composition. Listening examples are also used to assist students in developing a musically trained ear.

Course Objectives
1. Analyze music using triads.
2. Analyze music using seventh chords.
3 Analyze music using non-chord tones.
4. Analyze music using tonic, dominant, subdominant chords using functional tertian harmony.
5. Analyze music using supertonic, mediant, submediant and subtonic chords using functional tertian harmony.
6. Analyze simple Bach chorales using functional harmony.
