LANG 2340 - Simultaneous Interpretation - Medical

Students begin this course with training techniques including shadowing, dual tasking, and paraphrasing. They progress to simultaneous interpretation of oral exchanges common in medical settings. Students develop personalized glossaries of relevant terminology and evaluate their performance throughout the course.

Course Objectives
1. Develop simultaneous interpretation skills through shadowing, dual-tasking and paraphrasing techniques.
2. Simultaneously interpret typical exchanges in the medical setting.
3. Analyze renditions for additions, omissions, meaning changes, pauses and hesitations.
4. Improve vocabulary in working languages.
