LANG 2220 - Legal Terminology and Sight Translation

Students explore the origins of legal terminology and learn high-frequency terminology used in civil and criminal proceedings. This course involves extensive practice in sight translation of various types of course documents.

Course Objectives
  1. Develop sight translation skills through paraphrasing, vocabulary development and text-analysis activities.
  2. Sight translate typical documents in the legal setting.
  3. Analyze renditions for additions, omissions, meaning changes, pauses and hesitations.
  4. Improve vocabulary in working languages.
