INTD 1220 - Residential Design 4.5 Credits
This course is a study of residential interior design with emphasis on circulation, social, private, and work spaces. Analysis and application of space planning, codes, lighting, electrical and mechanical, fixtures, ergonomics, materials and finishes, and basic construction techniques are demonstrated through portfolio-ready items.

Course Objectives
- Understand and demonstrate the concept and process of visual thinking that is required in the design and construction of buildings.
- Identify the impact of human behavior on housing.
- Cite the differences between accessibility, sustainability, and Universal and Evidence-Based Design.
- Analyze the organizational flow of a typical residence.
- Identify and apply important ergonomic factors to include anthropometric data regarding the design of a residence.
- Demonstrate basic understanding of the required codes, constraints, and regulations that effect residential design.
- Understand and apply general rules of electrical and mechanical issues.
- Be familiar with basic residential lighting concepts and terminology.
- Demonstrate basic understanding of appropriate materials and finishes utilized in the design of a residential space.
- Recognize importance of budgetary factors pertaining to the design of residential space.
- Recognize and define Sustainability/Green Design Certifying Programs.
- Be able to apply Items 1-10 to the design of social and leisure, work, and private work spaces within a residence.
