INTD 1210 - Foundations for Interior Design 4.5 Credits
This course is an introduction to basic design fundamentals of the interior environment. Areas of emphasis include the study and application of principles and elements of design, materials and finishes, furnishings, building systems, lighting, sustainable design, and space planning. Projects are assigned to complete using a variety of techniques.

Course Objectives
- Identify goals, responsibilities, and career definition of the profession of interior design.
- Identify and define the six steps of the Design Process.
- Cite health, safety, and welfare factors as related to interior design.
- Identify the differences between Universal, Evidence-Based, and Sustainable Design.
- Identify the basic principles and elements of design.
- Identify selected systems, codes, and lighting examples within a residential design.
- Demonstrate skill in space planning relating to programming, zoning, floor plan analysis and layout.
- Identify typical interior finishes and materials relating to residential design.
- Recognize hard and soft window treatment definitions, design, and terminology.
- Recall interior design career elements in terms of business practices and ethics.
- Cite the differences in selected interior design professional organizations.
