HLSM 1052 - Landscape Maintenance and Mgmt 4.5 Credits
Students will learn how to maintain turfgrass areas and landscape beds. Students will learn how to use and properly maintain the tools used in turfgrass and landscape maintenance. Students will learn how to properly calculate mulch, fertilizer and soil requirements and how to properly plant a variety of plant materials. Students will learn how to cost out a maintenance project.
Prerequisites: (1) HLSM 1010

Course Objectives
- Properly prune all types of plant material including but not limited to trees, shrubs, perennials, annuals
- Properly repair basic irrigation breaks and malfunctions, winterize and open irrigation systems, design/install micro-irrigation in landscape
- Identify proper mowing and maintenance equipment for the type of maintenance required
- Properly calculate quantities of soil & mulch for maintenance projects
- Properly plant all types of plant material including but not limited to trees, shrubs, perennials, annuals
- Properly calculate fertilizer rates, calibrate equipment and use proper application methods
- Properly identify and maintain tools required for proper turfgrass and landscape maintenance
- Calculate turfgrass and landscape maintenance projects from start to finish
- Apply all information to correctly maintain and cost out an assigned maintenance area
