ESLX 0732 - Reading and Vocabulary 2 4.5 Credits
In this course, students read a variety of texts to continue developing the foundational reading skills necessary for success at the college level. Students strengthen the paraphrasing and summarizing skills learned in ESLX 0731. Additionally, students learn to make predictions and inferences about class readings and expand their academic vocabulary and distinguish multiple meanings of relevant vocabulary.
Prerequisites: (1) Take ESLX 0731 or MCC assessment testing

Course Objectives
- Identify author’s purpose, topic, main idea, and supporting details of authentic, level-appropriate texts.
- Make predictions and inferences about level-appropriate texts.
- Use a monolingual dictionary to identify parts of speech and multiple meanings of relevant vocabulary.
- Infer the meaning of unfamiliar words through context
- Paraphrase specific information in authentic, level-appropriate texts without plagiarizing.
- Write accurate summaries of short texts without plagiarizing.
