ENGL 1240 - Oral and Written Reports

Students building on Level-1 English skills by becoming better critical readers, researchers, writers, and speakers. Students design, draft, revise, and edit oral and written reports, both informative and argumentative, for specific audiences and purposes. They research, analyze and integrate primary and secondary sources of information through oral and written technical and workplace reports.

Prerequisites: ENGL 1010 orENGL 1011 or ENGL 1220 or ENGL 1225 or ENGL 1230

Course Objectives

Analyze, compose, and present reports with an awareness of audience and purpose.
Find, read, and evaluate information from traditional library resources, emerging online resources, and student-conducted primary research.
Synthesize research materials with one’s own ideas in logically developed oral and written reports, both informative and argumentative.
Design and develop two or more oral and written reports through multiple revised drafts and peer review.
Apply an appropriate in-text and bibliographic documentation style for one’s audience and genre in oral and written reports.
Compose and revise oral and written projects using knowledge of linguistic structures, including grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
