WELD 2520 - Shielded Metal Arc Welding (Stick) - Pipe I


3.0 Credits

Students learn basic pipe-to-plate welding, including techniques for single and multiple pass fillet welds in the horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions using E6010 and E7018 electrodes.

Prerequisites: (2) WELD 1100  with a grade of C or better and WELD 2510

Course Objectives
  1. Properly and safely set up Shielded Metal Arc Welding equipment.
  2. Prepare pipe for pipe‑to‑plate welding using various pieces of shop equipment.      
  3. Produce quality single pass pipe-to-plate joints in the 2F, 5F, and 4F positions using the SMAW process, with 6010 and 7018 electrodes.
  4. Produce quality multi-pass pipe-to-plate joints in the 2F, 5F, and 4F positions using the SMAW process, with 6010 and 7018 electrodes.        
  5. Pass visual inspection and dye penetrant tests.
