WELD 1100 - Industrial Cutting Processes

Students gain a working knowledge of oxy-fuel cutting (manual and machine), plasma cutting (manual),  air carbon arc and plasma gouging, and other shop equipment used to cut material.

Course Objectives
  1. Discuss the operating and safety principles of manual and machine flame cutting.
  2. Set up, turn on, adjust, shut off and drain the manual flame cutting equipment.
  3. Manually cut straight lines, bevels, circles, squares, odd shapes, and use miscellaneous cutting techniques.     
  4. Manually cut straight lines using alternative fuel.
  5. Set up, turn on, adjust flame, shut off and drain automatic flame cutting equipment.
  6. Set up flame cutting machine to cut straight lines and bevels.
  7. Discuss the operating and safety principles of manual and machine plasma cutting and gouging.
  8. Manually cut straight lines, bevels, circles, squares, odd shapes, and use miscellaneous cutting techniques.
  9. Discuss the operating and safety principles of the manual air carbon arc gouging process.
  10. Make straight line cut, gouge, remove weld metal, remove backing strip.
  11. Setup, turn on, adjust, and shut down SMAC (Shielded Metal Arc-cutting) equipment.
  12. Make straight line cuts using SMAC equipment.
  13. Correctly Adjust, and Safely Operate a plate shear, Band Saw, Cold Saw, Iron Worker/Piranha, and electric grinders
