WELD 2510 - SMAW (Stick) - Overhead

Students learn the proper techniques for welding fillet and groove welds using E6010 and E7018 electrodes in the overhead position on steel plate.

Prerequisites: (1) WELD 1510

Course Objectives
  1. Properly and safely set up Shielded Metal Arc Welding equipment.
  2. Use the Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) process to produce quality welds on mild carbon steels in a safe manner.
  3. Produce quality single-pass fillet welds in the overhead position using E60xx and E70xx electrodes.
  4. Produce quality multi-pass fillet welds in the overhead position using E60xx and E70xx electrodes.
  5. Produce quality multi-pass groove welds in the overhead position using E60xx and E70xx electrodes.
  6. Pass fillet weld break tests and guided bend tests on welds performed in the overhead position using E60xx and E70xx electrodes.
