The Biotechnology Career Certificate provides students with foundational knowledge of bioprocessing, biomanufacturing, and quality assurance including a core set of science and laboratory skills that enable them to be prepared for entry-level employment in the biotechnology industry. The program provides hands-on skill training and focuses on preparing students to be entry-level technicians in the biotechnology industry.

To earn this degree, a student must complete all required courses.

Program Level Student Learning Outcomes


1) Describe the application of using living organisms and cell culturing (upstream and downstream processes) to the production of biologically important or industrially useful products.

2) Use technical knowledge to perform basic hands-on laboratory skills common to biotechnology, bioprocessing, and biomanufacturing.

3) Apply standard techniques related to good documentation practices (GDP), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and standard operating procedures (SOP).

4) Demonstrate ability to use standard biotechnology equipment and instruments in performing basic biotechnology laboratory procedures.

5) Apply knowledge gained about the regulatory environment in the biotechnology industry, inspections, and audits to the job as an entry-level technician.

6) Define and explain the basic principles, concepts, and techniques of data analysis, problem-solving, and scientific communication related to the biotech industry.
