Award: Associate in Applied Science Degree
The Automotive Technology program is certified by the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF) and by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellent (ASE). The program is hands-on, and focuses on preparing students for careers in the automotive field. The program works closely with regional and national industry to encourage growth and training in preparation for real-world work environments. This program utilizes the most current technology and testing equipment to enhance the training required by today’s automotive industry.
Students must pass all AUTT courses in this degree with a C or higher.

Associate in Applied Sciences General Education Requirements - 22.5 credits
The following are General Education requirements for an Associate in Applied Sciences degree (AAS). Students may not use the same course to satisfy more than one degree requirement. Critical Thinking/Creativity & Social/Cultural Awareness
1 Course 4.5 credit hrs. Select 1 course from the list of Humanities or Social Sciences courses under the Critical Thinking/Creativity & Social/Cultural Awareness General Education Courses. Scientific Inquiry
1 Course 4.5-6.0 credit hrs. Select 1 course from either the list of Natural Sciences or Social Sciences General Education courses. *Students choosing a Social Sciences course to satisfy the Scientific Inquiry requirement should take a Humanities course to satisfy the Critical Thinking/Creativity and Social/Cultural Awareness competency. Automotive Technology (ATOAS) The following plan is designed to be the most direct path to degree completion and is based on a fall quarter start. Students are expected to meet with their student success navigator or advisor to plan a customized course schedule that meets their specific needs. Quarter 1 - AUTT 1110 - Automotive I: Fundamentals 12.0 Credits
- INFO 1001 - Information Systems and Literacy 4.5 Credits *Recommended Professionalism/Life Skills and Information Literacy general education course for this program.
Quarter 1 Note: Students must take AUTT 1110, AUTT 1120, and AUTT 1130 in succession. AUTT 2110, AUTT 2120, and AITT 2130 may be taken out of sequence.
Quarter 2 - AUTT 1120 - Automotive II: Introduction to Maintenance 12.0 Credits
Quarter 2 Note: After sucessful completion of the 2nd quarter, students should apply for the Career Certificate Automotive Technician Assistant (ATTCC). - Quantitative/Numeracy General Education - Select 1 course from the list of Quantitative/Numeracy Skills general education course options.
Quarter 3 - AUTT 1130 - Automotive III: Advanced Automotive Maintenance 12.0 Credits
- COMS 1000 - Fundamentals of Communication 4.5 Credits *Recommended Communication general education course for this program.
Quarter 3 Note: Year 1 Tool List should be successfully purchased. After successful completion of the 3rd quarter, students should apply for the Career Certificate Under Vehicle Specialist (ATVCC).
Quarter 4 - AUTT 2110 - Automotive IV: Engine Repair 12.0 Credits
- Critical Thinking/Creativity & Social/Cultural Awareness General Education - Select 1 course from the list of Humanities or Social Sciences general education course options.
Quarter 4 Note: Students should apply for the Certificate of Achievement, Automotive Maintenance and Light Repair Technician (ATMCA) if they have also completed the 13.5 general education requirements for the ATMCA certificate. Year 2
Quarter 5 - AUTT 2120 - Automotive V: Driveline Repair 12.0 Credits
Quarter 6 - AUTT 2130 - Automotive VI: Engine Performance 12 Credits
- Scientific Inquiry General Education - Select 1 course from the General Education natural Sciences or Social Science course options.
Quarter 6 Note: Year 2 Tool list should now be successfully purchased.
Program Level Student Learning Outcomes
- Apply fundamentals of automotive service training, including the basics of automotive diagnostics and repair.
- Identify, inspect, disassemble basic components of automotive engines.
- Apply knowledge of the function, construction, operation, troubleshooting and service of disc, drum and ABS systems, steering, suspension, and wheel alignment.
- Use electronic engine analyzers and scanners to test and tune ignition, fuel injection, and emission systems.
- Apply understanding of electrical principles, semi-conductors, microprocessors and wiring diagrams to diagnose and repair malfunctions of automotive electrical systems.
- Apply knowledge of the function, construction, operation, troubleshooting and service of front and rear wheel drive manual and automatic transmissions and transaxles.
- Test, service and repair heating and air-conditioning systems.
