Respiratory Therapy (RPTAS)

Utilizing sophisticated biomedical equipment, respiratory therapists provide diagnostic testing, treatment, and preventive care to patients with cardiopulmonary disorders under the direct or indirect supervision of a physician. Upon completion of this degree, students are eligible to take the registry examination administered by the National Board for Respiratory Care.

The Respiratory Therapy program is accredited by CoARC - the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care, 264 Precision Blvd, Telford, TN  37690, 1-817-283-2835.

All required classes for the RPTAS degree must have a grade of C or better to graduate from the program.

To earn this degree, a student must complete all required courses.

Respiratory Therapy (RPTAS)

The following plan is designed to be the most direct path to degree completion and is based on a spring quarter start. Students are expected to meet with their student success navigator or advisor to plan a customized course schedule that meets their specific needs. Program Level Student Learning Outcomes


  1. Upon successful completion of the program graduates will pass the NBRC TMC (Therapist Multiple Choice) exam at a high cut score, a 60% pass rate for our graduates is required over a three-year period by our accreditation body.
  2. Graduates of our program will obtain the RRT (Respiratory Therapy) credential within three years of graduating from our program (no threshold for this by CoARC (Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care), our accreditation agency).
  3. Graduates will communicate effectively in diverse groups while respecting beliefs and values of all persons, regardless of cultural background, religion, age, or lifestyle.
  4. After completion of the program graduates will acquire clinical competencies required for entry into practice (we have 28 specific competencies that are measured throughout our program in the clinical setting).
  5. Upon successful completion of the program graduates will apply problem solving strategies in patient care settings and think critically to adapt to changes in clinical conditions.
