The Accounting Professional Certificate of Achievement teaches the principles of accounting, the concepts of payroll and tax preparation, and introduces software utilized in businesses. An accounting professional’s job responsibilities often include recording transactions, preparing deposits, reconciling accounts, tracking customer accounts or vendor payments, processing payroll and preparing financial statements, tax filings and other reports. Students may use this certificate of achievement as a pathway to further education in accounting.

The Business program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP), an accrediting organization for institutions that support and have their emphasis directed toward excellence in teaching.

To earn this certificate, a student must complete all required courses.

1 Course     4.5 credit hrs.

Select 1 Level I course from the list of Communication General Education courses in the current course catalog.

Quantitative/Numeracy


1 Course     4.5 - 5.0 credit hrs.

Select 1 college level math course from the list of General Education math courses in the current course catalog.

The following plan is designed to be the most direct path to degree completion and is based on a fall quarter start. Program Level Student Learning Outcomes


  1. Prepare, analyze, and interpret financial statements in accordance with General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  2. Evaluate business decisions using managerial accounting methods.
  3. Analyze and prepare transactions and forms for tax filings.
  4. Analyze business transactions using technology, including QuickBooks.
  5. Identify the basic principles of economics, marketing, management, business law, and finance.
  6. Apply ethical reasoning to accounting scenarios.
