Electrical/Mechanical Maintenance Technology (EMAAS)

Award: Associate in Applied Science Degree

This degree provides education and training for maintenance personnel at industrial and commercial facilities. Students learn standard and advanced electrical systems, mechanical systems, and hydraulic/pneumatic systems.

The following plan is designed to be the most direct path to degree completion and is based on a fall quarter start. Program Level Student Learning Outcomes


  1. Demonstrate skills required to visualize and interpret industrial prints
  2. Describe mechanical power system essentials and demonstrate proper maintenance, removal, and installation procedures.
  3. Describe the basics of fluid power, both hydraulic and pneumatic, including transmission of fluid energy.
  4. Describe the different types of motors found in industry, have the knowledge to identify the different types, and demonstrate the ability to troubleshoot all motors.
  5. Demonstrate the ability to design, build, and troubleshoot motor control circuits. Describe the different components in a control circuit.
  6. Demonstrate an understanding of basic PLC fundamentals and programming logic.
  7. Demonstrate an understanding of the development of ladder logic using block instructions.
  8. Apply knowledge gained to create a PLC program, download, debug, and troubleshoot a machine in an industrial setting.
