Award: Associate in Applied Science Degree
This degree prepares students for a career in the heavy equipment, construction, and utility industries. This degree serves students by providing a diverse education of coursework that is taught by faculty with direct experience in the industry. A major strength of this program is the strong hands-on approach to learning.
Note: Students must earn a C grade or better in all DESL classes to earn this 2 year A.A.S. degree.

Major Requirements - 51.5 credits
Note:
- Students who currently hold a Class A or Class B CDL may ask for a waiver of DESL 1295 and DESL 1300L.
- It is recommended that students either pass MATH 1240 with a C or better prior to taking DESL 1210 or take MATH 1240 concurrently with DESL 1210.
- DESL 2981 requires 320 hours of on-the-job training that can either be taken during one quarter or extended over more than one quarter depending on needs of students and employers.

Associate in Applied Sciences General Education Requirements - 22.5 credits
The following are General Education requirements for an Associate in Applied Sciences degree (AAS). Students may not use the same course to satisfy more than one degree requirement.
Critical Thinking/Creativity & Social/Cultural Awareness
1 Course 4.5 credit hrs.
Select 1 course from the list of Humanities or Social Sciences courses under the Critical Thinking/Creativity & Social/Cultural Awareness General Education Courses.
Scientific Inquiry
1 Course 4.5-6.0 credit hrs.
Select 1 course from either the list of Natural Sciences or Social Sciences General Education courses.
*Students choosing a Social Sciences course to satisfy the Scientific Inquiry requirement should take a Humanities course to satisfy the Critical Thinking/Creativity and Social/Cultural Awareness competency.

Program Level Student Learning Outcomes
- Use industry shop tools and equipment in a safe manner without harm to oneself or others,
- Perform medium/heavy duty truck preventative maintenance and DOT inspections,
- Identify and explain the basic functions of medium/heavy duty truck components,
- Use threading tools, extractors and thread repair tools,
- Use manufactures specs to find service information and diagnose common engine failures,
- Disassemble, inspect, and assemble electrical components,
- Assemble diesel engine parts and components into a live engine,
- Explain the function and theory of diesel engine lubrication and cooling system components.
