Paramedicine (PMPMC)

Location(s): South Omaha Campus, Fremont Area Center

Award: Certificate of Achievement
Pathway to Associate Degree: Professional Health Studies - Paramedicine (PHPMO)
Academic Focus Area: Health Careers

This certificate of achievement allows students after successful completion to sit for the National Registry exam. Once certified, students can apply for state licensure. Upon becoming licensed, students can function as advanced providers in a fire department, with a transport service, or in a hospital emergency room.

Students who successfully complete the Paramedicine program can earn the Professional Health Studies degree by fulfilling the additional 10.5 credit hours in general education requirements.

Paramedicine (PMPMC)

The following plan is designed to be the most direct path to degree completion and is based on a fall quarter start. Students are expected to meet with their student success navigator or advisor to plan a customized course schedule that meets their specific needs. Program Level Student Learning Outcomes

  1. Through classroom, field and clinical experiences, the students will:
  2. Apply the basic concepts of human development, pathophysiology, formal knowledge of emergency pharmacology.
  3. Perform a comprehensive physical of a medical and trauma patient.
  4. Establish and maintain an airway through the ability to oxygenate and ventilate the respiratory patient.
  5. Formulate a field impression and implement treatment for patients with cardiovascular, neurological, endocrine, immunological, allergy oriented, gastroentrologic, kidney, toxicological and blood diseases.
  6. Identify and treat findings on a basic ecg and 12-lead ecgs.
  7. Formulate a field impression and implement treatment for patients with traumatic, behavioral, and ob-gyn emergencies.
  8. Formulate a field impression and implement treatment for pediatric, geriatric, and special needs patients.
  9. Determine guidelines for safe and effective ground, air, and medical transport, multiple casualty incidents, rescue operations, hazardous material incidents.
  10. Apply appropriate techniques within crime scenes and other violent situations.
