DESL 1640 - Climate Control - HVAC

Students study mobile heating, air conditioning, and related support systems. Hands-on shop work with a variety of equipment builds technical skills in trouble shooting and repair practices. Students also learn the impact of proper servicing on performance and the environment.

Pre/Corequisite: (1) DESL 1210 with a grade of C or better.

Course Objectives

Work safely in the shop/laboratory without harm to oneself or others.
Use personal and college-supplied tools effectively.
Perform preventative maintenance, repairs, replacements, and inspections on medium/heavy duty truck heating and air conditioning systems.
Identify components of medium/heavy duty diesel equipment heating/air conditioning systems.
Diagnose and repair failures in medium/heavy duty truck and diesel heating and air conditioning systems using appropriate procedures.
Apply the principles and functions of heating and air conditioning system components to diagnostics and repair.
Use specialized tools and equipment such as A/C recovery/recycling equipment, pullers, and clutch bearing removal tools.
Locate service information using manufacturer publications.
Apply federal rules and regulations related to refrigerant handing and recovery.
