PHYS 2120 - General Physics II with Calculus 7.5 Credits
This course is a continuation of the calculus-based sequence of college physics. Students learn scientific inquiry through the use of calculations and critical reasoning through the study of waves, sound, electricity, magnetism, light, optics, and select topics in modern physics. This course includes both lecture and lab components.
Prerequisites: PHYS 2110

Course Objectives
- Apply the principles of waves, vibrations, and sound to solve problems;
- Define and explain the sources and characteristics of electric forces and electric fields;
- Explain Gauss’s Law and apply this relationship to related problems;
- Apply the concepts of electrical potential energy and the electric potential to solve related problems;
- Use Ohm’s Law and apply these relationships to the solution of circuit problems;
- Solve problems related to magnetism;
- Define Maxwell’s equations using the integral form and the vector derivative form;
- Solve problems related to electromagnetism and optics;
- Solve problems related to atomic and nuclear physics;
- Discuss the effects of special relativity and other various basic quantum mechanical topics;
