HLTH 1599 - Physical Activity and Exercise 4.5 Credits
Students explore foundational concepts for movement and strategies for health professionals to support physical activity across diverse populations. Through experiential learning, students integrate evidence-based behavior change theory and methods to partner with clients to find sustainable and accessible forms of movement, explore fitness data, and use tracking tools to support positive behavior change. This course empowers future allied healthcare workers to use a collaborative approach to facilitate and promote physical activity.

Course Objectives

Describe the difference between physical activity and exercise and discuss their roles in health and well-being.

Discuss screening tools and safety protocols related to physical activity.

Identify major muscle groups and discuss how different types of movement feel and impact energy levels and well-being.

Collaborate with clients to explore and personalize a physical activity plan that fits their unique abilities, values, and goals using a coaching guide.

Demonstrate ethical and professional standards aligned with the scope of practice for health and wellness coaches, with assignment adaptations available for students pursuing other allied health professions. *

While the coaching scope is used as the instructional foundation, students from other allied health pathways (e.g., Nursing, Medical Assisting, Personal Training) may complete profession-specific assignment variations as appropriate.
