BIOS 2670 - Instrumentation 4.5 Credits
Students gain knowledge of the functions, operation, and maintenance of common biotechnology laboratory equipment, including medical devices. Students learn the importance of good documentation practices and standard operating procedures in complying with requirements of regulatory agencies. Students can observe local laboratory environments and explore emerging trends in biotechnology.

Course Objectives
- Identify regulatory agencies that govern biotechnology industries, medical devices, and clinical laboratory environments and describe their role.
- Describe the importance of standard operations procedures (SOPs) and adherence to established laboratory protocols in achieving compliance with regulatory agencies.
- Demonstrate the application of safety protocols and best practices while working within a laboratory setting to prevent accidents and ensure compliance with regulations.
- Describe the components and functions of common biotechnology laboratory equipment.
- Describe the principles and fundamentals of various clinical laboratory medical devices and related instruments and their applications in diagnostics.
- Explain the meaning of quality control, calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of biotechnology laboratory equipment to ensure accurate and reliable results and applying those quality control measures for accurate and precise laboratory instrument performance.
- Describe emerging trends and advanced technology in biotechnology laboratory equipment.
