HLSM 104W - Market Farming Winter

Students will study the principles and skills needed to operate a market farm. Students analyze the characteristics and operational feasibility of different products. Students participate in hands-on, seasonally relevant experiences from different aspects of market farm operations.

Prerequisites: (2) HLSM 1010 and HLSM 1011 must be completed prior to this course.

Course Objectives

Apply scientific principles of site selection and planning to evaluate different growing environment and plants.
Compare different animal species characteristics, nutrition and housing, health and hygiene, and stock sources
Operate tools and equipment used in production.
Relate basic plant processes to production and yield of crops.
Identify production crops by their common and botanical names.
