HLSM 104S - Market Farming Spring

Students will study the principles and skills needed to operate a market farm. Students analyze the characteristics and operational feasibility of different products. Students participate in hands-on, seasonally relevant experiences from different aspects of market farm operations.

Prerequisites: (2) HLSM 1010 and HLSM 1011 must be completed prior to this course.

Course Objectives

Compare different animal species characteristics, nutrition and housing, health and hygiene, and stock sources
Identify production crops by their common and botanical names
Operate tools and equipment used in a production
Analyze cultural practices in different growing environments
Plant and apply proper maintenance to a project site
Identify Contamination and Routes of Contamination related to crop production
