HLSM 1011 - Soil, Ecology, and Sustainability

Students examine the principles and importance of soil and apply the information to a project site. Students practice different methods of hands-on testing and data gathering. Students analyze information and data and make recommendations to improve a project site for horticulture pursuits.

Evaluate Site and Regional condition using principles of ecology
Relate principles of ecology to Soil
Compare different types of soil and how these differences can affect a site
Relate topography maps to changes in elevation on a site and understand the effect topography has on a site
Recognize the relationship between plants, climate, water and soil
Evaluate site data gathered and make recommendations on use and remediation integrating sustainable practices
