MCAP 1130 - Automotive 3: Advanced Auto Maintenance 12.0 Credits
Students develop knowledge and skills in automotive computers and the relationship with sensor inputs and actuator outputs. A major focus of this course is operation, diagnosis, and repair of automotive heating and air conditioning units, front and rear suspension, steering systems, and vehicle stability systems.
Prerequisites: (1) MCAP 1120 with a grade of C or better.
Recommended: COMS 1000 is recommened prior to taking this course.

Course Objectives
- Apply fundamentals of automotive service training, including the basics of automotive diagnostics and repair. (PO1)
- Identify the components, explain the operation, diagnose, and replace steering and suspension components. (PO3)
- Complete a pre-alignment inspection and perform an alignment. (PO3)
- Explain the function of ABS and stability control systems. (PO3)
- Identify the components, explain the operation, and diagnose modules and electronic computer systems. (PO5)
- Identify the components, explain the operation, diagnose, and service Supplemental Restraint Systems (SRS). (PO5)
- Identify, explain, and diagnose instrument panels, displays, mechanical gauges, electronic instrument clusters, information gauges, lighting, and indicator and warning devices. (PO5)
- Identify and explain the components and servicing of various automotive options and accessories. (PO5)
- Diagnose automotive convenience concerns. (PO5)
- Explain the basic operation of automotive heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems and the process for diagnosing and servicing HVAC systems. (HVAC) (PO7)
