MCAP 1120 - Automotive 2: Intro to Maintenance

12.0 Credits

Students gain knowledge and skills in engine operations, transmissions, drivetrains including basic ignition systems, hydraulic principles, and vehicle maintenance. In addition, students perform brake rotor and drum resurfacing, identify and repair brake system components utilizing a variety of automotive testing equipment.

Course Objectives

Diagnose starting, charging and battery concerns. (P05)
Use electrical diagrams to diagnose electrical problems related to cooling systems, exterior lighting, instrument cluster warning lights. (PO5)
Describe operation of ignition systems, fuel systems, emission systems and computer components (P04)
Describe diesel and gas engine theory (PO2)
Demonstrate maintenance requirements for diesel and gas engines (PO1)
Identify the functions powertrain components (PO6)
Perform basic maintenance on powertrain components (PO6)
Inspect Suspension components (PO3)
Perform basic maintenance and parts replacement on suspension systems (PO3)
Identify Drum and disc brake components. (PO3)
Perform basic service on drum and disc brake components. (PO3)
