MFGT 1000 - Introduction to Process and Power Operations

Students gain basic knowledge and skills to use various equipment and components found in the process and power operations industry. Topics include preventive and predictive maintenance, safety, lubrication, precision measuring devices, compressors, pumps, valves, steam systems, heat exchangers, cooling systems, and process instrumentation.

Course Objectives

Identify and follow safe work practices and procedures as well as how to properly inspect and use safety equipment. Students will be able to describe safe procedures for lifting, fighting fires and working around electrical hazards.
Explain how the metric system and geometry are used in the trades. Students will practice adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing whole numbers, fractions, and decimals, as well as converting fractions, decimals and percentages.
Identify, inspect, use, and take care of basic hand tools.
Identify, inspect, use and maintain a variety of power tools.
Interpret information in written and verbal form and how to communicate effectively using written and verbal skills.
Students will be introduced to various operations and equipment found in the process operations industry.
Students will be introduced to maintenance systems and procedures used in manufacturing and process operations.
