MFGT 2310 - Facilities Operations I

This course introduces students to skills generally required for entry-level employment in a steam power plant. Topics include the generation of steam, valves, and piping used in the power plant; thermodynamics and heat transfer; pump theory and design; and water purification and treatment.

Course Objectives
  1. Describe equipment and systems as it relates to the operation and maintenance of a critical facility or power plant.
  2. Demonstrate an understanding of the various types of piping and piping systems used in critical facilities and industrial plants.
  3. Describe the various valves and valve operators used in critical facilities and the power industry
  4. Describe the various pumps, and explain the pump theory, and pump design as it relates to equipment, operation, and maintenance of a critical facility.
  5. Explain the science of thermodynamics and heat transfer as it relates to equipment, operation, and maintenance of a critical facility.
  6. Demonstrate an understanding of water filtration, water treatment theory, methods, tests, and procedures.
