MFGT 1302 - Stationary Engineering I 4.5 Credits
This course provides basic instruction in low- and high-pressure boilers in the stationary engineering field. This is the first of two courses designed to help students obtain a City of Omaha, Third Grade Stationary Engineers Certificate.

Course Objectives 1. Describe the role of the stationary engineer in various settings, identify steam boiler types, code standards, steam boiler fittings, and their functions. This applies to field erected boilers, with emphasis on package boilers.
2. Describe system components and functions on steam systems, feed water systems, fuel systems, and draft systems.
3. Explain functions of fuel burning equipment, fuel oil burners, gas burners, combination gas/oil burners, and stoker, (coal burners). Evaluate and describe the fuel handling systems found in large power and utility plants.
4. Evaluate types of combustion, draft systems, heat reclaim, stokers, and pulverization systems.
5. Describe automatic combustion controls and various instrumentation.
6. Analyze boiler water conditions, internal and external water treatment equipment, systems, and procedures.
7. Define steam boiler operation, operator duties and responsibilities, start-up shutdown procedure in boiler operation such as: boiler inspection, boiler layup, emergency procedures in boiler operation, routine plant maintenance, boiler room safety, and boiler room fire prevention.
