MATH 1430 - Trigonometry 4.5 Credits
Topics include trigonometric ratios, triangles, vectors, circular functions, trigonometric identities, inverse trigonometric functions, trigonometric equations, and complex numbers.
Note: The prerequisites include grades of C or better in MATH 1425 and MATH 1430 for MATH 2410. The two courses can be taken in either order prior to enrolling in Calculus I; however, it is recommended that students enroll in MATH 1425 prior to enrolling in MATH 1430.
Prerequisites: Math 1312 with a C or better or MCC placement test within 2 years or placement via ACT within 3 years.

Course Objectives
- State the definitions of the six trigonometric functions using a right triangle and the unit circle.
- Solve triangles by applying the Pythagorean Theorem and the trigonometric ratios.
- Solve for each unknown in the arc length and angular velocity formulas.
- Sketch the graphs of for the sine and cosine functions and sketch the graphs of y=k+Af (Bx+C) and tan x, cot x, sec x, and csc x.
- Verify trigonometric identities.
- Solve trigonometric equations.
- Solve triangles using the Law of Sines and the Law of Cosines.
- Add, subtract, multiply, and divide complex numbers in trigonometric form and apply DeMoivre’s Theorem.
- Add and subtract vectors, perform scalar multiplication of a vector, find the magnitude and direction of a vector, and find the dot product of two vectors.
- Convert polar coordinates to rectangular and rectangular coordinates to polar.
