COMS 1300 - Interpersonal Communication

Students are introduced to theories of communication between two people in a variety of contexts and situations. Students learn how to analyze and interpret the communication within interactions and relationships and develop a vocabulary with which to discuss and critique the communication within those relationships. This knowledge is used to improve students’ day-to-day communication skills.

Course Objectives

Define and apply three interpersonal communication concepts: communicating the self (intrapersonal communication), understanding and communicating power and conflict, and understanding and communicating in close relationships.
Identify and apply the interpersonal communication skills of listening and responding, sharing information and communicating effectively verbally and nonverbally.
Participate in a variety of interpersonal and intrapersonal communication experiences, activites and exercises.
Within the application process, students will increase awareness of the effects of technology on interpersonal communication.
