MGMT 2400 - Business Logistics 4.5 Credits
Students learn the essential concepts of logistics and its importance within the framework of supply chain management. This course will prepare students by helping them to understand how logistics interfaces with business operations, production, sales and strategy. Students will practice logistics management techniques and focus on current and emerging trends within logistics management. Topics covered include information technology in logistics, strategic and financial logistics, supply chain management concepts, procurement, demand management, order management, customer service quality, inventory management, plant spatial strategies, warehousing management, packaging and materials handling and transportation.

Course Objectives
- Identify how the operations managers effectively work within the organization
- Describe the importance of quality and productivity within a strategic framework
- Illustrate the connections between inventory and managerial processes
- Apply inventory management practices
- Identify how the various planning practices, enterprise resource planning (ERP), material resource planning (MRP), scheduling, capacity planning, project planning, scheduling and aggregate planning process align to support strategic business operations
- Identify and describe the relationship between a business strategy and sales & operations planning (S&OP) cascaded down business operations
- Explain total quality management (TQM), lean operations, six-sigma and its importance with respect to effectiveness, efficiency and strategy within the firm
- Examine supply chain management through the lens of sales, production and operations
