MGMT 1410 - Nonprofit Management

Students learn the role of the nonprofit sector in community service and development. Topics include finance and budgeting (accessing public and private sector grant monies), management and personnel, ethics, scope of services (education, health, arts and culture, youth, community, environmental, human services) and the interdependence of business, government and the nonprofit sector.

Course Objectives

Demonstrate an understanding of the Constitutional and statutory foundation of the not-for-profit sector.
Demonstrate an understanding of the history and growth of the not-for-profit sector and it’s role and function in American society.
Demonstrate an understanding of not-for-profit governance.
Demonstrate an understanding of funding non-for-profit organizations.
Demonstrate an understanding of the importance of volunteerism in the operation of non-for-profit organizations.
Demonstrate an understanding of the basic parameters of the grant-writing and application process.
Articulate an understanding of fiscal controls and accounting practices unique to the not-for-profit sector.
