INFO 2648 - Programming for Data Analytics

Students gain hands-on experience gathering, cleaning, and manipulating data to provide insights into real-world datasets. Current programming languages and libraries active in the industry of data science will be used such that students will gain experience in working with data from a raw data set stage through to pattern identification and visualization creation. Specifically, this course builds on concepts introduced in pre-requisite courses to provide this end-to-end view of working with data in an industry appropriate language.

Course Objectives

Load and provide basic descriptions of loaded data.
Create common data structures.
Create visualizations using standard libraries.
Combine multiple sources to form a single data set.
Identify and apply appropriate strategies in adjusting for missing data.
Use common strategies to manipulate a data set for analysis.
Identify and convert between data types.
Use common methods for strings.
Write and apply a function across a data structure.
Group a subset of data for aggregation, filtering or transformation.
