HIST 1120 - World Civilization from 1500 to Present

Students will explore the history of selected civilizations from the Renaissance to modern day. Students will examine the political, economic, social, cultural, and technological contributions of these civilizations - individually and collectively - to the modern world.

Course Objectives
  1. Identify the names and describe the major civilizations, individuals, places, institutions and creative works in the history of world civilization from the Renaissance to modern day.
  2. Analyze and evaluate the relationship of historic civilizations to the modern world in the seven major categories:
    1. Legal/political
    2. Social/culture
    3. Religion/philosophy
    4. Artistic expression/literature
    5. Science/technology
    6. Economy/infrastructure
    7. Developments in communication
  3. Identify and describe the major time periods from the Renaissance to modern day.
