This course presents computer forensics concepts, tools, and data analysis. Students explore civil and common law issues that apply to information systems and gain practical experience in evidence detection and preservation as well as the concepts of establishing communications with company leadership and investigative agencies.

Course Objectives

Explain digital forensics and identify the tools needed.
Explain the differences in criminal and civil investigations.
Explain the differences in burden of proof between a civil and criminal case.
Create an image of subject systems and validate the image as being original.
Conduct forensic analysis on systems, files and structures.
Secure the scene of an incident and collect digital evidence.
Explain admissibility of evidence in court and explain court procedure.
Explain Constitutional issues relating to investigations.
Use forensic tools and equipment.
