SCET 1220 - Site Layout


4.5 Credits

Students learn fundamental concepts of civil site and building layout procedures. Students use engineer’s scale measuring tapes, builder’s levels, theodolites, robotic total stations and Global Positioning Systems (GPS) to practice actual procedures used in construction site layout practices. Students become proficient in terminology used in surveying.

Course Objectives
         1.     Use basic surveying vocabulary. 
         2.     Define the main system of unit measurements used in land surveying.
         3.     Identify the principal ways of making horizontal measurements.
         4.     Identify the principal ways of making vertical measurements.
         5.      Identify basic transit and traverse surveying
         6.     Develop field notes, profiles and sections.
         7.     Apply the fundamentals of GPS.
