DESL 2100 - Manual Drivetrain

This course is the study of medium- and heavy-duty truck clutches, transmissions, drivelines, and differentials. Focus is on operation, repair, and maintenance of these systems.

Prerequisites: (1) DESL 1000 with a grade of C or better

Course Objectives

Work safely in the shop/lab without harm to oneself or other students.
Gain the skill of tool usage through the hands on use of the student’s tools and equipment/tools supplied by the college.
Perform heavy duty truck clutch adjustment, disassembly, inspection, and assembly with emphasis on quality work.
Identify internal/external and integrated parts for clutches, transmissions, driveline and differentials.
Properly diagnose component failures.
Explain the function and theory of clutches, transmissions, drivelines, driveaxles and differentials.
Gain technical skills by disassembling, inspecting, and assembling clutches, transmissions, driveline and driveaxles.
Properly diagnose component failures by performing 3 and 7 above.
Use industry specialty tools in 3 and 7 above.
Diagnose electrical and electronic failures or fault codes in direct drive transmissions and other driveline components.
Properly use EST’s to diagnose and analyze electronic and mechanical failures for 10 above.
List and master use of proper terminology for clutches, all transmissions, driveline and differentials.
