PHOT 1108 - Basic Experimental Photography

Students continue the practical application of processes learned in PHOT 1105. Students learn to use popular historical process and contemporary techniques as a means of reaching new visual goals. Students create work that demonstrates how historical photographic processes can be used in a contemporary context.

Course Objectives

Express thoughts beyond conventional to discover the process of personal creation.
Identify photographic processes and innovations, historical through present day.
Examine the potential of modification through the use of alternative materials and the effect it can have on an image, both visually and contextually.
Utilize contemporary methods of image capture with historical image making processes
Mix formulas from component chemicals in a safe manner.
Utilize related printmaking equipment, materials and processes.
Compose images incorporating alternative and non-silver processes.
Research and expand awareness of important historical and contemporary photographers who embrace experimental approaches to image-making.
