MDST 2020 - Administrative Procedures II

This course is a continuation of Administrative Procedures I. It includes a more in-depth discussion of insurance and its impact on healthcare. It also addresses diagnostic and procedural coding, completion of insurance forms, credit and collections, submission of third-party claims, payroll processing, bookkeeping principles, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.

Prerequisites: (3) MDST 1020, MDST 1030, and MDST 1040

Course Objectives
  1. Schedule, coordinate, and monitor appointments
  2. Schedule inpatient/outpatient admissions and procedures
  3. Perform medical transcription
  4. Perform word processing applications, written correspondence using various formats, correct grammar
  5. Perform proper telephone etiquette
  6. Understand, Identify, and perform proper patient interview techniques, cultural diversity, and appropriate dialogue among health care partners
  7. Apply bookkeeping skills, document & maintain accounting and banking records, accounts payable & receivable and process payroll
  8. Demonstrate and identify the components of proper office management techniques
  9. Demonstrate, identify the requirements for managing inventory and supplies, and develop inventory and supply list
