MDST 1030 - Medical Disorders

This course provides students with the opportunity to study and learn basic information about common medical conditions that are frequently first diagnosed in the ambulatory healthcare setting. Understanding how diseases affect the human body is essential to providing patient care. The course introduces disease processes as well as infectious diseases, congenital diseases, and neoplasm in conjunction with the body systems that they affect.

Course Objectives
1. Identify pathophysiology and describe the common medical conditions and disease affecting the human body
2. Identify and explain the etiology and risk factors associated with major conditions and disease mechanisms, which affect the human body.
3. Recognize the various signs and symptoms of the most common diseases and abnormalities.
4. Discuss the common diagnostic procedures and treatments and how they relate to the prognosis for the patient.
5. Recognize and discuss the importance of prevention of disease as an essential component of health care today.
